Myanmar Earthquake Appeal
Powerful earthquakes in Myanmar have caused catastrophic devastation. Survivors urgently need critical support and our partners at the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC)* have launched an appeal to help with the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar.
A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake has devastated huge areas of Myanmar. More than 3,000 people have died, and hundreds of people are still missing. Many more have no access to the safe shelter, clean water, food and medical care they need to survive. Countless roads and buildings have been destroyed, including hospitals, schools and water supplies.
We are proud to support the DEC appeal alongside other co-operatives, media, and corporate businesses and we’re encouraging members, colleagues and customers to donate to the DEC appeal.
How can you support
DEC charities are already on the ground in affected communities and are working hard to access remote areas.
You can help provide food, water, shelter and medical aid by donating in the following ways:
- In Your Co-op Food stores at the till
- Online
- Texting COOP to 70727 to donate £10**
Every pound donated by the UK public will be matched by the UK government through its Aid Match scheme up to the value of £5 million. This support will double the impact of donations and will ensure that charities working on the ground can reach those in urgent need.
* The DEC registered charity no. 1062638.
** All text donations are to the value of £10 plus standard network charge.
