Each year, more than 1/3 of food produced in the world goes to waste, and it's responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions.
That's why we've set a goal to cut down on controllable food waste in Your Co-op Food stores by 30% by January 2026, compared to 2019 levels. We started with a 20% target for 2023/24, and we're proud to say we've already surpassed it! This goal isn't just a promise; it's part of our commitment to sustainability with our partners. So far, we've managed to reduce controllable food waste items by 21%, beating our target for 2023/24.

How does the Too Good To Go app work?
The Too Good To Go app is an easy way of saving surplus food from getting thrown away from your local Your Co-op Food store.
Simply download the app by following the links at the bottom of the page, sign up and set your location.
Once you've done this, you'll see a wide range of local businesses selling 'surprise bags' of their surplus food that you can reserve to collect. Scroll down to the supermarket section and you'll be able to see what 'surprise bags' your nearest Your Co-op Food store has to offer.
Your Co-op Surprise Bag should contain 3 or more grocery items as well as fresh food items like bread, salads, fruit, cheese, meats, cakes, and pastries. The best bit? You’ll only pay around 1/3 of the original retail price for your bag! Remember, the contents of your Surprise Bag depend on which items haven't sold that day, so it's a surprise until you pick it up.
Search for your nearest Midcounties Co-op Food store on the Too Good To Go app. Reserve your bag ahead of time and pick it up in-store at your scheduled time. It's that easy! Not only is this great for the environment in reducing food waste, but it can also save you a few £££s as well!
