This apple-based alternative to mulled wine is easy to make

and simple to scale up for bigger get-togethers

Serves 6, Ready in 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 litre bottle Co-op classic apple cider
  • 150g Co-op Fairtrade light brown soft cane sugar
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 12 cloves
  • Pared zest of 1 lemon
  • 2 apples, thinly sliced
  • 2 pears, thinly sliced
  • 3 satsumas, thinly sliced

Method

  1. Put the cider, sugar, cinnamon, cloves and lemon zest in a large pan over a low heat
  2. Stir occasionally until the sugar has dissolved
  3. Add the fruit and gently simmer for 10-15 mins to allow the flavours to infuse
  4. Allow to cool slightly, then serve in heatproof glasses
